蛇にピアス

This is one of the books I got after wandering in the Asahiya bookstore of Tobu. What I’d already known is only the fact that it’s also an Akutagawa prized novel. Again, being attracted by its title, I got it and started to read it. Its main theme was about a girl who is taking splitting-down operation―cutting one’s tongue into two vertically, shaping it like that of a snake.

After finishing it, for me, the most fascinating part was its intro―the description of that snake-like tongue of one protagonist of the story. However, what I cannot totally agree was that, the author got love scenes in almost every place with her strong tone and detailed description.

I also googled for some information on that author and the adapted up-coming movie of this story. The author, Hitomi Kanehara(金原ひとみ) was only 20 when this story was published. Her father was a researcher on children's literature and also a translator. However, it was also said that Hitomi has school refusal since the fourth grade and seldom goes to school since then.
